Bob had been playing rhythm in a band called Dateliners in London, but moved to Newquay at the start of 1966.

While at school he met up with some like minded individuals who lived and breathed music, like himself, who were putting a band together. Bob auditioned for the band in the back of a Commer Van in the car park of The Farmers Arms in St Columb Minor.

Fifth Squad played hits of the day and rock & roll. London was a hotbed for R&B when Bob left and he brought a few popular numbers to the band. They didn't last and after a few gigs disbanded.
