The Thunders

Years active:

1960/61

Location:

Penzance

Band Members:

Eddie Osborne (Guitar/Vocals)
George Fry (Guitar/Vocals)
David Pryor (Drums)
Chris Smith (Lead Guitar/Vocals)

All in the group were not long out of school. Chris knew that George & Eddie used to sing and play together, although at this stage that was just at home rather than out in public. Chris approached the pair and soon the three of them were playing together for fun. Chris was friends with Dave Prior and asked him to join. At that time he couldn’t play, but soon learnt on the job!

After a few months of rehearsals the group, now known as The Thunders, starting playing the local village halls, charity events and the St John’s Hall. Like many bands in the early 60s they were playing a mixture of Elvis, Cliff and also Everly Brothers (George and Eddie provided excellent harmonies). Eventually George moved to Plymouth and went solo.
