Chris Pollard has kindly shared his recollections of The Thubes
In 1964 The Rolling Stones released their first album, this had a great influence on both (school friend) Julian and myself. This album introduced us to a whole gamut of R & B artists which had been covered by the Stones. Suddenly we were turned on to Bo Diddley, Muddy Waters, Rufus Thomas and Chuck Berry, in fact we had like so many other young kids at the time, found the music that would stay with us for the rest of our lives. The proof of the pudding so they say, well we have played songs from that album in every band we have been in and still do in Sticky Fingers today.
We formed the Thubes in school in about 1965 which was the year I left. Julian and myself were joined by classmate Phil Tucker on drums. Julian was now well settled as the guitar player, this freed yours truly to pursue my greatest urge to be the singer and the front man. |
