Active in the early 60s, the Riverside Ballroom was located in a building at the end of the quay in Padstow on the left hand side of the harbour. It was either a resturant or hotel with a large ballroom. It was replaced by a red brick building which became apartments.
Run by Rex Webb (of Teen Promotions) and one of the early venues in Cornwall. Many bands report never seeing any money, despite it being a packed house! The venue was frequented by the Bates brothers, a pair of fishermen who would visit every Saturday looking to knock some heads together and smash the place up a bit. Bands were known to fight off the crowd with their guitars!
