Mr Peggotty's

Location:

Porthmeor Rd, St Ives

A popular St Ives club and disco that ran for many years, closing down only fairly recently.

The venue was started by Bill Reid and his partner Eddie Norman, with Eddie buying out Bill in the mid-70s. Eddie Norman and Bill Reid previously ran the very successful Blue Moon mod club in Cheltenham.

In the 60s it also spawned its own resident group, Pegotty's People, featuring Sally Baldwin, Paul Newman and Michael Strachan.

In 1971 Martin Val Baker teamed up with Julie Hewitt to run the Mask Folk Club at the club. As well as visiting artists they also had floor singers, where at local performers had the opportunity to queue up for guest slots. The folk club lasted until Autumn 1972 and was revisited again in 1975 for a year.

With thanks to Colin Hill
