Hayle Rugby Club

Location:

Memorial Park, Hayle

The Rugby Club played host to many big name bands in the late 60s and early 70s, including Status Quo and Queen. The small stage was located at the rear of the club.

Brian Robinson of 'Sounds of Time remembers the club

I played at the Hayle Rugby Club in the early 70s with my band "The Sound Of Time". We were quite a wild bunch and I remember the drummer Dinky swinging off the stage lights, but not much else...except that Hot Chocolate were playing at a nearby hotel and word got around that we were more entertaining, so their audience abandoned them to come and see us - the place was packed out :0)

I remember the manager giving us a crate of Pils lager because he'd/we'd had such a good night. My gran lived at Illogan Highway so we visited her on the way home the next day to get her pissed. She'd recently been diagnosed with diabetes so she took full advantage of the fact that there was no sugar in Pils lager. She was a hilarious Brummie and the band always looked forward to visiting her whenever we played in Kernow!
