Doublestiles, Newquay

Location:

48 Porth Bean Road, Newquay

A long lasting outlet for live music in Newquay for several generations of locals.

Developed from an old council house, in the early days groups would play in the bar area, but the then owners Ted & Jill Amour extended the venue creating a separate dance venue with a bar area on one level and a small number of steps down to the dance floor.

Throughout the summer the venue would put on bands most nights of the week. Popular Newquay band Coconut Grove would play on both Sunday and Thursday nights. The band would also play the venue every Thursday night throughout the winter months.

Safron live on stage, 1970s

Always a popular local’s venue it would be packed every night of the week.

In later years Doublestiles would become The Famous Firkin. Sadly it is now been demolished and housing built on the site.
