Cornwall Techincal College (now Cornwall College) had many students who played in bands.
Dolcoath Engineering and Technical College was located in Dolcoath Road. Part of the college moved to the Trevenson Rd site and became Cornwall Technical College, with Dolcoath retained the engineering, mathematics and technical drawing courses.
The Student Union also ran dances and booked national acts. The end of year dance was the big event and took place in the refectory. This was usually a national band, with support from a local act and also a DJ.
Along with the Beatles and Stones, Jimi Hendrix was one of the very few acts not to make it to Cornwall in the 60s. He almost did however!
Hendrix was booked to perform at the end of year Tech dance, but after the booking had been made Hey Joe hit the charts and his management decided that travelling to the depths of Cornwall wasn't a viable option and the booking was pulled.
The dance still went ahead with Deep Purple performing instead.
