Hi-Fi Club

Location:

Penzance

The Hi-Fi club was located behind what was Ruberry's Garage, opposite the train station. It had a long room which was the main dance hall. It was rented from Mr Ruberrry.

The club was set up by Eric Langman and Teen Promotions who ran dances at the club, regularly featuring the Staggerlees and local bands such as the Layabouts. The club would also bring in bands from Plymouth.

The venue was offered the Beatles in their early days, but the price was too high for them at the time.

Eric ran the club for a few years before Peter Martin took it over. Peter used to help Eric out and eventually took it over after they had renamed it the Teen Scene Club. Eric would then take on management of The Staggerlees.

The club continmued to put on local bands and run record hops.

The venue had no toilets and eventually was closed by Environmental Health.

Now demolished, flats now sit in its place.
